Serum colloid oncotic pressure in critically ill patients requiring ventilatory support

Abstract
We have measured serum colloid oncotic pressure with IL 186 Weil Oncometer System in 40 patients requiring ventilatory support postoperatively.
After this study, we have considered it good to administer colloid such as albumin to the postoperative intensive patients requiring ventilatory support.
Colloid solutions can improve restoration of plasma, oxygen transport, and restrict fluid accumulation in pulmonary interstitial space.
We have obtained the following results;
1. Arterial blood gas showed pH 7.41¡¾0.080, PaCO2 35¡¾5.4 torr and PaO2 139¡¾56.2 torr.
2. Average AaDO2 was 97¡¾20.5 torr and COP was 20¡¾2.7 torr.
3. The COP in post-open heart cases was 19¡¾2.4 torr and the COP in non-open heart cases was 21¡¾2.9 torr.
4. In 16-18 torr, 19-20 torr and over 20 torr of COP, AaDO2 were 143¡¾31.4 torr, 93¡¾ 23.7 torr and 65¡¾17.8 torr respectively.
